Bohena
The word "Bohena" comes from the Australian Indigenous Kamilaroi Tribe of North West New South Wales. Translated means "Resembling a Tree".
Bohena Olives is a boutique grove established in 1997 on the north- west plain of NSW. It is owned and operated by the Gale family.
Well drained sandy to red soil, with long hot summers and cool winters provide conditions suitable for growing olives. Under the care of leading olive consultants, Bohena Olives are seeing their trees flourish.
The olives are grown using environmentally friendly practices which help to produce a high quality Extra Virgin olive oil. The oil is mild, with a fresh fruity flavour.
In the past, olives were hand picked with pneumatic rakes. Following the development of a proto-type olive harvester built and used in 2004 the 2005 harvest will be harvested with an updated machine harvester produced by son Timothy, a qualified engineer.
Within hours of harvesting the olives are crushed and processed. Bottling of the oil takes place some weeks later after the oil has settled.
